Super Wednesday – Insurance

For this Super Wednesday webinar, we have three insurance focused sessions presented by Cecilia Farrow (Founder and Managing Director at FAP Services Limited), Dean Logan (Managing Director Logan Smythe & Associates Ltd) and Leigh Hodgetts (Professional Development, Standards and Policy Manager, Financial Advice NZ).

Session 1: Refocus on your business plan and goals – presented by Dean Logan.
Session 2: Are you using your disclosure to their best advantage? – presented by Leigh Hodgetts
Session 3: How to create meaningful conversations with small business owners – presented by Cecilia Farrow.

Session 1 – Refocus on your business plan and goals

The near singular focus on getting licensed has meant many of us have not had the time to put energy into our business goals and business plan. But, as succinctly put by author Fitzhugh Dodson, “Without goals, and plans to reach them, you are like a ship that has set sail with no destination.” This short sharp session has the objective to bring business goals front of mind and give you some helpful insights into setting your purpose and plan.

Session 2 – Are you using disclosures to their best advantage?

The inclusion of disclosures into our advice workflow has been a key outcome of the new regulations, but is it a ‘tick box’ exercise for you and is the timing of when you provide them meeting the purpose set out in the Code? Have you developed a way to incorporate them into your advice so that they enhance your value proposition? This session will recap the purpose of the disclosures, discuss when you use them throughout an engagement, and share some ideas about how you can build them into your service proposition to create a positive impact.

Session 3 – How to have meaningful conversations with small business owners

Many of us are talking to very small businesses even though we may not perceive ourselves as business risk advisers. The starting point of advice is more often the personal risk needs, and then perhaps a little bit of insurance is added to cover business debt or some business expenses. Experience shows us though, that despite being very small, the financial risks can be quite significant to the business and family if the owner is disabled or dies. Cecilia Farrow, business risk expert, will provide insights into why it’s important to have more meaningful conversations with small businesses and how you can do this to help the business owner make better risk decisions.
