Dunedin – Financial Advice NZ Connect Tour 2024

July 23 @ 8:00 am - 11:30 am NZST

Dunedin Connect Tour

Join your peers in Dunedin on 23 July 2024 as we shape the future of financial advice in Aotearoa New Zealand.

As we look to the future, our industry is in transition. What made advice businesses successful today will not be the same as what makes them successful tomorrow.

Consumer expectations are changing and the regulatory and competitive environment in which financial and mortgage advisers operate is becoming increasingly complex.

As an industry, how well, and quickly, we respond to these changes will determine the ongoing relevance of financial advice.

There has never been a better environment for fresh thinking and new ideas, adviser-led originality, and curiosity to re-imagine the future for financial advice in New Zealand.

Why you should attend the 2024 Connect Tour

  • Cut through the noise – get clarity of purpose for yourself and your business
  • Explore new ideas to implement with your clients today
  • Be future focused on the latest trends impacting our advice community.

Programme and Speakers

Advice for good, New Zealanders’ attitudes towards financial advice

Bronwyn Kirwan, Chief Commercial Officer, Fidelity Life

Fidelity Life’s consumer research shows that most New Zealander’s aren’t seeking financial help, either through regular financial ‘health checks’ or at key life stages, until they’re nearing retirement.
By understanding the ‘why’ behind these attitudes and habits we can focus on helping more New Zealanders better utilise their money today and protect and grow their wealth for tomorrow.

Fireside Chat with the Chair Financial Advice Code Committee

Angus Dale-Jones, Chair, Financial Advice Code Committee

The Code Committee is the independent standard setter for financial advice, informing the Minister for Commerce & Consumer Affairs in relation to the Code of Professional Conduct for Financial Advice Services.

The Code Committee is tasked with reviewing and updating the Code of Professional Conduct, which applies to everyone who gives financial advice including all Financial Advice Providers (FAPs).

What is the knowledge, skills, and behaviours, our industry needs for the future of financial advice in NZ?

Observations from the Frontline

Michelle Forster, Director Principal, Heathcote Investment Partners

The environment in which advice businesses are operating is increasingly more complex, requiring greater resources to retain and attract clients. All at a time when more Kiwis desperately need expert guidance with their financial decision-making.

A road map for future business growth depends on how well the industry positively responds to the changing demands of consumers.

Adviser Excellent. Winner of the Community Impact Award

Tim Fairbrother CFP, Financial Adviser, Rival Wealth

16 years ago, Tim and his wife Carissa opened the doors on their new boutique financial planning practice – RIVAL Wealth. A name that challenges Kiwi’s to work smarter on their finances. Today they are a multi-disciplinary business across Life and General insurance, KiwiSaver, DIMS investments, employee benefits and accounting. What hasn’t changed is their commitment to the local community and a mindset for growth.

Advocacy in Action

Nick Hakes, Chief Executive Officer, Financial Advice New Zealand and Cecilia Farrow, Head of Professional Development

We share the outcomes of our member value research which informs the strategic priorities of Financial Advice NZ, including our latest thinking on a financial advice competency framework for Financial Advice Providers (FAPs) to meet their regulatory obligations.

Financial advice is an industry in transition, the delivery of advice is being transformed and the professional pathway of the next generation of advisers will look different to how it did in the past. Reframing the role of the modern adviser through the lens of the consumer will help build consumer confidence and grow the demand for quality financial and lending advice.
