NZ Income Insurance Scheme Discussion

The government have proposed a new Government Insurance Scheme as a new way of better protecting workers and the economy. This will have a significant impact on New Zealanders and the access to insurance.

The proposal includes:
• supporting workers with 80% of their income for up to seven months if they lose their job through no fault of their own
• the scheme would be funded by levies on wages and salaries, with both workers and employers contributing.

MoBIE are seeking submissions on the new proposed scheme. This scheme is a significant policy development and will impact on the personal insurance environment as we know it today.
Financial Advice NZ will be submitting on this policy and we would like to hear your views on the policy as part of the submission process.
