Topic 2: De-facto Relationships, Relationship Property, and Risk Management Advice – Cecilia Farrow

In this eye-opening topic, Cecilia Farrow will delve into the legal intricacies of personal relationships and their implications on relationship property and risk management. Many couples live in a de-facto relationship by choice but for some, it’s unintentional due to how The Property (Relationships) Act defines what is a de-facto relationship. Whether intentional or not, the division of relationship property rules can significantly impact the wealth of individuals in a de-facto relationship if they have not considered how they want the property to be divided if the relationship ends.

Understanding the nature of client relationships, their expectations regarding property division, relationship property, and the status of their wills is vital in comprehending the financial risks that need to be protected and how insurance policies should be owned.

This engaging webinar will cover:

  • Personal relationship structures,
  • The Relationship (Property) Act 1976
  • Specific parameters of de-facto relationships
  • Wills and de-facto relationships
  • Division of property when a relationship ends
  • Risk management advice – what you should be discussing with your client.
